Leaks and speculations regarding the upcoming PS5 have been as fast and furious as Vin Diesel. One of the largest speculations is that Sony will officially unveil the PS5 this month in February.
Since it is the beginning of February I thought it would be good to review some of these speculations.
DESIGN

The common belief is that the PS5 will have a “V” or “arch” shape and look like the above photo. This is universally excepted as to how the next-generation device will look. It would be hard to find another credible concept.
UI DESIGN

A more recent leak shows the supposed home screen UI. This design appears to be the same as the current PS4 user interface design.
BACKWARDS COMPATIBILITY
Possibly the most interesting leak is that the PS5 will provide full backwards compatibility all the way back to the PS1. Tech Insite has a recent post on this: PS1 Games On The PS5?. There has been backwards compatibility for 1 generation however we have never seen backwards for multiple generations of consoles.
LAUNCH GAMES
4chan had a leak claiming what games would be available at launch. These games include Gran Tourismo 7, MLB The Show 21, Demon’s Souls Remastered and Godfall.
There is no reason to believe that these are not possibilities. The only one I question a bit is MLB The Show 21. The only reason I say this is because of the timing. MLB The Show comes out every March right before the beginning of the new season. If the PS5 will be released during the holiday season 2020 then MLB The Show 21 would not be a thing. It is possible the leak got the year wrong and meant to say that MLB The Show 20 will be re-released with a PS5 specific version.
SONY TO SKIP E3 2020
Lastly, Sony will not have a presence at E3 2020. This is not a leak or speculation because Sony themselves has stated they will not be showing.
A Sony spokesperson told GamesIndustry.biz that they “do not feel the vision of E3 2020 is the right venue for what we are focused on this year.”
This leads to the speculation that Sony will be releasing more specific information regarding the PS5 on its own terms in February. This could be done either via press releases or an actual Sony event.
Come back to Tech Insite for new information once Sony officially releases new information.
